Local Produce Season

Local Produce Season

By Dave Whitney, Produce Manager, Co-op Owner

Summer is just getting started and, here at GreenTree Co-op Market, we’re seeing a substantial increase in our local item offerings. We’ve had an amazing local, organic strawberry season; sourcing an abundance (almost 1200 quarts!) of sweet, delicious strawberries over an unusually long season.

We’re proud to say that close to 90% of our Michigan produce comes from Isabella, Gratiot, and Clare counties. As of 6/18/2024 our current local, organic items, include: Genovese basil, bok choi, rainbow chard, baby fennel, frisee heads, Bibb lettuce, little gem lettuce, romaine lettuce, microgreens, lacinato kale, curly kale, green cabbage, spring mix, spinach, and radish bunches. Within a couple of weeks we expect to have beets, red cabbage, yellow summer squash, zucchini, and black cap raspberries, too.

We’re also excited to announce that Russon Family Farms is joining our roster of local providers. We’ll be seeing biodynamically raised blueberries from these folks in the near future. You can learn more about their “permaganic” methods by checking out their Facebook page or their website – these folks are true stewards of the land!

We love this time of year!
