What’s in store for your store?
We’re celebrating our 45th Anniversary this year! Crazy right? As Liz Busch used to say, “We don’t look a day over 21.” We’ll be celebrating the entire week of March 16th-22nd with theme days and a CSA give-away, but mark your calendars for March 21st: It will be a bonus Owner Appreciation Day!* We’ll have free house-made cake from our deli, free coffee, and it will be your last chance to enter and win a CSA half-share from Monroe Family Organics, a half-share from Swier Family Farm, or a mushroom share from Swier Family Farm! In the meantime, we hope you’re enjoying the new monthly choose-your-own Owner Discount Day. We still have free coffee and the chance to win a GreenTree goodie bag on the first Saturday of each month, so stop in, get caffeinated, and enter the drawing.
BYO-Bags and Wooden Nickels! For years Co-op Owners and shoppers have diligently brought in their own shopping bags and then some. We’ve taken used grocery bags and sorted them. We reused what we could and recycled the rest. About five years ago we started buying grocery bags because our need exceeded supply. Those bags cost us approximately 4 cents each. With that (and the environment) in mind, later this year we’ll roll out a wooden nickel program. Each time you use your own reusable grocery bag, we’ll give you a wooden nickel. You can then take your wooden nickel and put it in a donation jar for the local non-profit of your choice. At the end of each quarter, GreenTree will add up all the wooden nickels and write a check to that organization.
This is also the time of year when we start planning the Annual Meeting (tentatively May 29th watch your mail and email for specifics). It’s also the time when elections for GreenTree’s Board of Directors take place. This year we’ll have 3 full term seats and 2 one year seats up for election. If you’ve ever thought about running for the Board, now is an exciting time to do so. With expansion on our horizon, you’ll be able to play a bigger role in helping to make that dream a reality!
