Better with Bacon Pasta

Starting with a jarred sauce is a great way to speed up your dinner prep while still building layers of flavor. This recipe brings together savory, sweet, tangy, and umami into a hearty and nuanced sauce that will have everyone at your table smiling and asking for seconds!

Ingredients:

  • 8-10 slices of bacon
  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 large yellow onion, chopped
  • 1 6oz can tomato paste
  • 1 cup broth
  • 1 24oz jar of pasta sauce
  • ½ cup dry red wine
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon pepper
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • Parmesan cheese (optional)

Instructions:

In a Dutch oven or large pot, heat the bacon slices until cooked through. Remove the bacon (leaving the fat in the cooking vessel) and set aside. Place the ground beef into the pot and cook in the bacon fat until browned. Add the chopped onion and cook an additional 5 minutes. Drain the excess fat into a heat safe container and return the cooking vessel to the stove top. Add the tomato paste and stir until incorporated. Finally, add all the remaining ingredients, including herbs and spices, to the pot and mix well. Bring the sauce to a boil and then reduce heat to low. Simmer, covered, for an hour.

When ready to serve, cook spaghetti noodles according to the package directions. Drain, rinse, and top with sauce. Top with Parmesan cheese before serving for a little extra oomph!
