By Megan Fisher, General Manager, Co-op Owner

As we welcomed in spring weather and the start of Michigan’s growing season, we also held GreenTree’s Annual Owner Meeting on May 2nd. If you’ve never attended a meeting, once a year we specifically meet with good people, eat good food, finalize the Board of Directors voting, and talk about GreenTree’s previous year’s performance along with highlighting some objectives for the current year.

Let me recap the top Annual Owner Meeting highlights:
            i. A total of 165 Owners voted to elect Mike Lents, Kim McBryde, Debbie Robb, and Nicole Thornthwaite to join the Board of Directors!

ii. Angie F., Andrea A., and Susan H. won the potluck contest! It was a hard task tasting all those deliciously crafted dishes, but someone had to do it!

iii. The Beans for Bags recipients this year include Dalis to the Rescue, the Chippewa River District Library, and GreenTree Co-op Market.

iv. 2024 resulted in -$347,983.62 net profit, which was not surprising as, post relocation, the store hasn’t been predicted to make a positive profit until after 2025.

            v. Customer count increased by over 3,500 shopping trips!

vi. We sold over $380,000 local items (produced and grown in Michigan).

vii. Shoppers donated over $900 in our Beans for Bags program, saving over 21,000 plastic bags from the system.

viii. In 2025 staff worked hard to achieve a positive income for the first quarter totaling over $185,000.

ix. GreenTree’s total income goal is $5M in 2025.

            x.  As a store we’re focusing on back-to-basics: making sure we remain true to our Ends policies and recommitting to offering the best service we can to our shoppers and community.

I also want to note that staff are extremely aware of variable tariffs, and we are watching the changing situations as they develop. GreenTree is committed to offering our community quality groceries at the most stable prices we can achieve. Prices are fluctuating, sometimes delivery by delivery, and higher prices will be seen on imports like coffee, bananas, and packaging materials. We pledge to offer the best prices we can to shoppers. Thank you for choosing to shop at GreenTree Co-op Market and support your local community-owned grocery store! It means a lot to the store, staff, and me!
