Why you should run for the Board of Directors!

Imagine being part of a team that helps shape the future of our community’s beloved GreenTree Co-op Market. The GreenTree Annual Meeting is coming up fast and with it comes the opportunity to run for the Board of Directors. I would like to encourage anyone who is passionate about the store and the value it brings to our community to consider running.

You don’t need to have any knowledge of the retail grocery space, we leave all of that in the capable hands of Megan Fisher, our General Manager. What you do need is passion for the store and our mission. Our Ends:

1. People have access to food and products that meet their health needs, including organic, non-GMO, locally-produced, and responsibly-sourced.
2. Our Owners have the opportunity to participate in a democratic process.
3. Our community benefits from GreenTree being an exemplary employer.
4. We have a strong local economy.
5. Our community is educated.
6. Our environment is positively impacted.

The Board of Directors, the General Manager, and her Leadership Team keep all of these principles at the forefront of every decision we make or projects we undertake. These are our guiding principles. If you also believe in these values, then the Board is the place for you.

I ran for the Board in 2022 because I am passionate about healthy eating and the health of the world in which we live. GreenTree is pretty much the only place in our community that offers food and wellness items that align with my values, so I wanted to contribute to its growth and success.

I have been so impressed by the way the store is run, staying open during the pandemic while undertaking a capital campaign, moving into a new location, and paying employees a living wage even as we took on more debt for the new building. You couldn’t ask for a more passionate and dedicated staff than we have at GreenTree and they deserve a Board of Directors with that same passion and dedication. Could that be you?
