This six ingredient DIY shaving cream is a nice alternative for people with sensitive skin.
- 1/3 cup Coconut Oil
- 1/3 cup Shea Butter
- 2 Tbsp Aloe Vera Gel
- 2 tsp Baking Soda
- 10-20 drops Essential Oil (Optional*)
- 2 Tbsp Olive Oil
Melt the coconut oil and shea butter in a double boiler on the stove top until liquid. Once melted add your choice (or not) of essential oils. I used about 15 drops of lemon essential oil for a citrusy scent. Cool the mixture in the fridge until relatively solid. Take back out and place in the bowl of a stand mixer with the baking soda and aloe vera. Whip until fluffy and white, which is about 2-3 minutes, scrapping the sides of the bowl as needed. That’s it, it’s ready to use! Enjoy!
*Lavender, lemon, vanilla, and peppermint are good choices, just stay away from stuff like cinnamon, which can irritate the skin.
Didn t try making the gel. I think the recipe could be altered to make a solid cake for men who prefer a mug and brush. That s another thing. I missed the hot lather at the barber shop.
