Turmeric is a versatile and healthy spice that can be used in many different ways. It is popular in Indian cooking, as a supplement, and in juicing. Here are two interesting ways to use that jar of bright yellow powder to create colorful and tasty beverages!
(See the video here.)
Turmeric Lemonade
Ingredients:
- 2 Tbsp powdered or freshly grated Turmeric*
- 4 Tbsp (or to taste) Grade B maple syrup
- 2 lemons, juiced
- Pinch of ground black pepper
- 4 cups cold water
Instructions:
Combine the first four ingredients in a large jar or small pitcher until well mixed. Add the cold water and stir. Drink immediately or store in the refrigerator. Turmeric will settle, so stir before pouring for a full serving of turmeric.
*Turmeric will stain just about anything it touches bright yellow, Wear gloves when grating the fresh root.
Golden Milk
Ingredients:
- 2 cups milk or non-dairy alternative
- Honey or maple syrup to taste
- 1 tsp ground turmeric
- 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
- 1/4 tsp ground ginger
- Pinch of black pepper
- 1 tsp coconut oil (optional)*
Instructions:
For hot milk, warm the milk in a small saucepan until heated through and whisk in all other ingredients until well combined. For cold milk place all ingredients in a blender and pulse until combined, or shake vigorously in a well sealed jar.
*We suggest omitting the coconut oil if you intend to serve the milk cold, as it may separate or refuse to incorporate.
