October is National Co-op Month! Here at GreenTree we carry products from many other cooperative businesses in our aisles. One of those cooperatives is Frontier! You see their name on our bulk spices, bottled spices, and their essential oils line, called Aura Cacia. Frontier has been a member-owned cooperative since 1976, the members are stores and other organizations that buy and sell Frontiers products and they have over 40,000 members. Their goals are to make great products, “all while creating life-changing opportunities for our growers, employees, and their families. We’re driven by a simple purpose: to do good by our people and planet. And to create a stronger company built on a commitment to quality and sustainability.”
They have many great practices as a cooperative organization, and work hard to follow through on their stated purpose. From meeting personally with their growers, to creating partnerships with mutual respect, and building on those partnerships to create sound social and environmental practices. They also run Our Well Earth, a sustainable sourcing program that builds and fosters relationships in their sourcing communities, strengthens the resilience of their farmers and supply chains, creates life-changing social and environmental impacts, and ensures a positive social, environmental, and business impact. These things all improve the lives of farmers, their families, and their communities. Follow this link to learn more about Frontier Co-op!
I use many of Frontier’s products from our bulk section, which has a lot of great spices and teas. I personally enjoy being able to refill containers I already have when I remember to bring in the cleaned jars and bottles. Here at GreenTree we carry about 109 of Frontier’s bulk spices, herbs and teas in addition to other products in our baking and HABA sections. Overall, almost 300 products are from Frontier Co-op! That is a lot of products to try out!
Speaking of trying out new things: On Frontier’s website, they have a wide selection of tasty recipes to try, and I can’t decide which one to make first! Here are a few recipes that I want to try for the next few weeks as the cozy cold weather continues to set in:
Garlic and Herb Twice-Baked Potatoes:
“Twice-baked potatoes provide creamy, cheesy and buttery comfort food. Seasoned easily with aromatic Garlic and Herb Seasoning and paprika, this twice-baked potato recipe packs delicious herbal flavor.”
This just sounds yummy! I love potatoes – in soups, as fries, you name it! I even made my own gnocchi recently! It was so tasty. So these potatoes will be a hit in my household. Sounds like an excellent movie night recipe for when we have company over!
Lemon Pepper and Herb-Chicken and Rice Soup:
“Classic chicken and rice soup brought to life with lemon pepper, rosemary, parsley and thyme.”
This sounds like the ideal dish to throw together on a cold evening to eat all cuddled up under a blanket. It feels very Hygge; the Danish lifestyle of all things warm and cozy. Perfect for the cold months and the holidays!
Dark Chocolate Cupcakes with Hazelnut and Cinnamon Ganache:
“Beautiful dark chocolate cupcakes meet the warm flavors of toasted hazelnuts and organic-cinnamon-infused dark chocolate ganache.”
I have an important birthday coming up for someone close to me and these cupcakes feel like the prefect treat to help celebrate the next year of their life!
“Here’s the secret to a thick, creamy almond milk chai latte with black tea and organic spices. Enjoy it with our oat flour pancakes recipe or curled up with a book on a cold day. Cheers!”
I have been giving chai a try recently and I am very curious what a chai that doesn’t come a tea bag would be like. As a college student, I am always trying to find better options then coffee and energy drinks, especially for those late night cram sessions and long nights writing important papers.
While all of the recipes on Frontier’s website look super tasty these are just a few that I am very interested to try soon! The recipe section also features a wide variety of options from one pot meals to holiday dishes. You can find most of the items you need for the recipes in the aisles at GreenTree. Here is a link to the recipes section of their website so you can browse around for yourself. Share with us on social media and in the comments what tasty recipes you try!
If you are running low on some of those staple spices or need just a little of something for a recipe that you are trying, check out this amazing Co-op at your local Co-op during National Co-op Month!
