Making Your Own Scrubs

Making Your Own Scrubs

By Megan Barber, Wellness Buyer, Co-op Owner

Whether you make a tiny batch or enough for a year, these scrubs make the perfect gift for any occasion. They moisturize and exfoliate at the same time – a great combination for dry Michigan winters. You can even customize the scents to suite the recipient – try a woody scent like pine, cedar, or eucalyptus coupled with mint for a refreshing variation. If you find yourself in need of a little pampering, why not make an extra jar and treat yourself too?

Simple Sugar Scrub

  • 1 4oz Ball Canning jelly jar
  • 1/4 Cup Organic cane sugar
  • 1/3 Cup Olive oil
  • 10 drops Organic lavender essential oil
  • 6 drops Organic oregano essential oil

Mix all ingredients together in a small bowl. Pour mixture into the jar. To use, wet hands and face, use a small amount to gently exfoliate skin. Rinse clean. I chose lavender for its perfectly balanced floral-herbaceous aroma providing a calming, relaxing, refreshing, toning and cleansing effect. And I chose Oregano for its spicy aroma, but used only a small amount, as it can be harsher on sensitive skin.

Super Salt Scrub

  • 1 4oz Ball Canning jelly jar
  • 1/4 Cup Coarse sea salt
  • 1/4 Cup Coconut oil
  • 10 drops Organic lemon essential oil
  • 10 drops Organic rosemary essential oil

Mix all ingredients together in a small bowl. Pour mixture into the jar. To use, wet hands and face, use a small amount to gently exfoliate skin. Rinse clean. I chose rosemary because of its fresh, herbaceous scent, and purifying properties. And I chose Lemon oil for its sweet light aroma.
