Celebrate Earth Day Sustainably!

Celebrate Earth Day Sustainably!

By Stacy Saul, Grocery Buyer & Merchandising Manager, Co-op Owner

Every year on April 22nd, we celebrate Earth Day, the most important holiday on the planet! (See what I did there?) It’s celebrated in 192 countries across the globe. And now that the weather is starting to warm up a little, it can be a lot of fun to get out and enjoy it. Of course, you can’t celebrate Earth Day with any old fermented beverage, you need something in keeping with the theme of the day. That’s where we come in!

Did you know that GreenTree offers organic, sustainable, and biodynamic wines? We carry lots of locally sourced wine and beer too! Frey Winery makes organic wines with no added sulfites. We offer their red and white table wines. Bonterra Winery is another fantastic option for organic wines. Their vineyard and grapes are certified organic by the California Certified Organic Farmers. We offer their Merlot, Cabernet, and Sauvignon Blanc. Wente and Benzinger Wineries are both sustainably farmed, although not certified organic. We also carry a large selection of Michigan wines to help cut your carbon footprint!

Since we have mix-n-match 6-packs, you can tour the state with your taste buds!

If wine isn’t your thing, we have a large selection of Michigan beer to quench your thirst! You can tour the state through your taste buds with our wide-ranging selection. We carry Short’s, Bell’s, Saugatuck, Atwater, New Holland, and Founder’s just to name a few. Did you know that New Holland is planning on using 100% Michigan made ingredients in their seasonal beer on tap at their Pub? The brewery has stated that by 2016, all specialty beers brewed at their 8th Ave Pub will be brewed exclusively with Michigan grown ingredients, including malted barley, wheat, hops, fruit, and yeast. New Belgium Brewery in Fort Collins, Colorado uses solar power to produce 18% of their electricity, is a Certified B Corp, and 99% of their waste is recycled! Every day is Earth Day at New Belgium.

So stop in and check out our selection  – we’ll help you celebrate Earth Day on April 22nd, and year round too!
