A Word from the Board

A Word from the Board

By Amy Derry, Board Secretary, Co-op Owner

As GreenTree Co-op Market starts a new chapter at 410 W Broadway, we want to say thank you to everyone running for the Board of Directors. Thank you for bringing your curiosity, familiarity with the store, the community, and your commitment to cooperation. Let me tell you a little bit about what the Board does. We meet on the third Wednesday of every month. It is a fulfilling, interesting, and needed way to support the Co-op. The Board of Directors represents the Ownership and our members take a turn following the health of the Co-op. The Board ensures that the cooperative is running according to the values and principles listed below. If you choose to run in the future, you will be trained, receive our bylaws, policies, and a tour of the store. Don’t worry, the talented, experienced hard-working General Manager, leadership team, and staff will continue to run the store.

Why did I run for the Board? GreenTree has always felt like a family to me, I wanted to be more involved than my frequent lunch and shopping trips. I enjoy experiencing GreenTree from a different perspective. From a seat on the Board I witnessed and was informed about the details of the move to 410 W Broadway. The design, fundraising, construction, logistics, hiring, increased membership and sales achieved by Sarah, the leadership team and staff are even more impressive up close. The Board of Directors is thankful GreenTree’s new chapter includes a living wage for employees, a parking lot, hot bar, and indoor seating. It’s an honor to be part of this impressive team striving to live up to these principles and values.
