Community Partner: Redbird Feeds & Pet Supplies

By Rachel Cromell, Marketing Assistant, Storekeeper, Co-op Owner

When it comes to community, Redbird Feeds and Pet Supplies is more than just a retail store. Located at 1210 E. Pickard St., it has been part of Mt. Pleasant for more than 20 years, specializing in healthy pet foods, locally-made products, and outdoor items. Redbird puts local first by offering pet foods and handcrafted products from a variety of area vendors.

Community activism is an important part of the local difference, and Redbird takes this to heart. Redbird has helped over 65 cats find forever homes in the last 6 months alone through its pet adoption partnership with the Clare County Animal Shelter. This program has saved animals that would otherwise have been put down at the small, at-capacity shelter. Adoptions take place in-store, and pictures of potential adoptees and their bios can be found on the Redbird Facebook page. Prices for cats are $15 for spayed/neutered animals, and $25 for altered animals with basic vaccinations.

Redbird offers pet owners alternatives to mass-produced pet foods by sourcing from family-owned companies with higher-than-usual safety standards. All of Redbird’s pet foods are sourced from the USA and include healthy blends, GMO-free kibble, grain-free options, and premium brands. Many contain pure ingredients like chicken, bison, whitefish, and vegetables, and are free of preservatives or unnecessary additives. A few popular food brands include Earthborn, Fromm, Wellness, Nutrisource, and Dr. Gary’s Best Breed.

Redbird loves to see healthy cats and dogs, but they’re here for your feathered friends as well as the furry ones! Wild bird feeds are available prepackaged or in bulk, and in blends that are formulated to attract different native bird species. Special mixes attract different birds, like seed blends for feeding finches and suet blends for bringing in woodpeckers.  Stock some in one of Redbird’s Michigan-made bird feeders, and you’re bound to see colorful wildlife throughout the year!

In addition to pet products, Redbird also features items like handmade, rustic wood furniture; bat houses, outdoor metal art, equestrian supplies, Small House body care products, local honey, and natural grilling chips/planks.

Redbird Feeds and Pet Supplies offers 10% off your total purchase with the presentation of a valid GreenTree Owner card. They can contacted by phone at 989-773-2399, or found on Facebook.
