Integrative and functional medicine: What is it and why do it?
I am a fully accredited and licensed Osteopathic physician (“Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine”, a “DO”) with almost two decades of experience in the Central Michigan area. A key distinction between DOs and MDs is that we’re more attuned to looking at (and of course treating) the causes of our patients’ problems rather than just the immediate symptoms.
In the past decade I completed my fellowship in Integrated Medicine. This additional knowledge helps me find the nexus of the problem – whether it’s toxins, parasites, infections, hormone imbalances, or standard infections – and help bring each individual back into balance.
I look at and will suggest a wide variety of treatments – high quality vitamins and supplements, appropriate nutritional choice, and prescription drugs as needed.
My specialty of Integrative or Functional Medicine looks at the person as a whole – not as a diseased organ. Mind, body, and spirit all play a role in managing each person’s search for wellness.
Some frequent medical problems that I have seen and successfully treated include fibromyalgia, irritable bowel, chronic fatigue, migraine headaches, rheumatoid arthritis, auto-immune disorders, and gastro-esophageal reflux disease.
I see patients on a consultant basis and will be happy to coordinate my evaluation and treatment regimen with your primary care provider.
I look forward to helping you achieve your goal of wellness.
